The Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA) webinar
Presented by:
Carolyn Swenson, MSPH, MSN
Presented on: Thursday, August 28, 2014 10:00 AM Eastern Time
EACC approval: Approved for 1 PDH in Domain II, III (Includes 1 CE contact hour from NBCC, CBBS and NAADAC)

Depression is one of the most pervasive and treatable mental health conditions in the workplace. It contributes to significant reductions in workplace productivity, increases the risk for poor overall health, makes it more difficult to follow a healthy lifestyle and increases the risk of suicide. Does your EAP assessment process effectively identify depression symptoms? Learn how to integrate evidence-based brief screening using the PHQ and how to respond to the results. This webinar will review information on the prevalence, signs and symptoms of depression, and brief interventions to help an employee seek appropriate care. In addition, real-world information will be provided on providing assistance with depression within an EAP setting and knowing when to refer outside of the EAP for treatment.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Implement PHQ-2/9 screening into your EA assessment process and review the results with EAP clients;
  2. Recognize and appropriately address suicide risk; and
  3. Identify appropriate next steps for further assessment and care.
