Participants will learn about:

  •  health systems transformation, the enhanced Office of Minority Health’s National
  • CLAS Standards in Health and Health Care, and challenges and opportunities for implementation with diverse populations
  • immigrant population demographics, the implications of this data for clinicians and service providers, and the need for developing transnational competence
  • professional, family, and consumer perspectives on autism spectrum disorder in multicultural communities
  • existing legal requirements and strategies for ensuring language access and best
  • practices in communicating effectively with clients/consumers with limited English proficiency
  • approaches to culturally competent mental health assessment, counseling, and
    treatment and the new DSM V, with a focus on autism spectrum disorder
  • model programs that are improving access and providing culturally competent care
    and services for immigrant children, youth, older adults, and their families
  • innovative live cultural competency/diversity training programs that increase cultural awareness, improve communication, and address unconscious bias and micro-inequi%es
