Opioid abuse and addiction are on the rise, and are seriously impacting families and communities across the country. Data shows that the Medicaid population bears a lot of the brunt of this emerging epidemic. The consequences of opioid abuse have raised the interest of state Medicaid programs in tackling this complex problem. The National Association of Medicaid Directors (NAMD) released a report last fall that highlights a range of options for Medicaid to address this challenge across the spectrum of prevention, monitoring, education and treatment. Now NAMD is teaming with the National Council for Behavioral Health to host a discussion of this problem, and the potential solutions state Medicaid programs may employ to prevent and reduce opioid abuse and overdose.
On this webinar, leaders from state Medicaid offices will share the main findings of the report, and the challenges Medicaid programs may face in managing this issue. We will then hear from state voices on their successes and lessons learned in their efforts to tackle opioid abuse—including the opportunities and constraints at the patient, provider, plan and state policy levels. We welcome you to join the conversation.
